Fall Placemats Craft Activity

Autumn Placements Craft Activity

Go on a family walk and find colorful leaves and flowers.
Make sure they’re not too thick. Carefully bring them home.

Here’s What You Need:

  • Pressed Leaves and Flowers (see separate instructions for pressing)
  • Small Drawings or cut out pictures (make sure they’re flat)
  • 2 Sheets of Waxed Paper, the size of a placemat (about 11” x 17”)
  • Additional waxed paper for pressing leaves & flowers
  • Large brown paper bag (from a grocery store, remove bottom & cut in half)
  • Iron

To Press Leaves and Flowers:

Sandwich your leaves and flowers between sheets of waxed paper and place inside or under large heavy books. Keep them this way for a few days. Items are ready when they are nice and flat.

Here’s What You Do:

  1. Have a grown up pre-heat an iron to the “medium” setting.
  2. Place one sheet of the brown paper on an ironing board.
  3. Place one sheet of the waxed paper on top of the brown paper.
  4. Arrange your leaves or other cut out shapes & drawings on the waxed paper. Make sure to keep space around the edges.
  5. Place the second sheet of waxed paper on top of your arranged items.
  6. Finally, cover everything with the second sheet of brown paper.
  7. Have a grown up iron your stack of papers. The waxed paper sheets will “stick” together and the brown paper will absorb the excess wax. Let cool.
  8. With plain or decorative scissors, trim around the edges.
  9. Have Fun!
